Lent is a season of reflection, a time when we are invited to slow down, turn inward, and open our hearts to God's presence. While many Lenten practices focus on abstention or physical acts of service, creative writing offers a powerful way to connect with our faith in a deeply personal and reflective way. Writing as a Lenten discipline invites us to pause and listen—to ourselves, to scripture, and to the still small voice of God.
This Lent, the Windows to Wonder creative writing prompts offer a unique opportunity to explore the story of Nicodemus and his gradual understanding of Jesus through the lens of creative storytelling. By engaging in this reflective writing practice, we can explore our own journey of faith—just as Nicodemus took slow, intentional steps toward understanding who Jesus truly was.
Each Monday for six weeks beginning March 2, 2025, you'll find the latest writing prompts here.

Just Brave Enough: Amplifying Women's Voices
Before we dive into the writing prompts for Lent, let’s take a moment to explore the origins of Just Brave Enough—the organization that is guiding our Lenten writing practice.
Just Brave Enough began when five pastors, united by a shared love of scripture, came together to amplify the voices of women in the Bible. While in seminary, Pastor Laura Franks Benton envisioned writing first-person narratives of biblical women, which later inspired the creation of the team. Their work highlights not only well-known figures like Eve and Mary but also the many other women—named and unnamed—who contribute to God’s story.
We are so delighted that Pastor Laura joins us this season as our special guest and contributor.

Creative Writing as a Lenten Discipline
In the spirit of Just Brave Enough’s work to bring the voices of women in scripture to life, our creative writing prompts this Lent focus on Nicodemus—a figure who slowly, over time, came to understand who Jesus was through his personal encounters. Just like Nicodemus’ journey, creative writing can help us slow down, think deeply, and let scripture shape us in unexpected ways.
The writing prompts provided will offer weekly opportunities to engage with the story of Nicodemus in a new and creative way. You’ll explore a facet of his journey, writing in response to the prompt in whatever form feels right to you—be it poetry, narrative, or reflective journaling. While each week’s prompt stands alone, when taken together, they will build into a mini collection of personal reflections, stories, and poems. This process is an opportunity to see yourself in the story and invite God to speak to you through the act of writing.
Writing Your Lenten Journey
If you’re looking for a new way to engage with God’s Word on your Lenten journey, the Windows to Wonder creative writing prompts are for you. Whether you write one prompt or complete them all, each writing moment is an opportunity to draw closer to God and reflect on your faith. Let the words we write become windows to wonder—revealing new glimpses of God’s truth, grace, and love.
