Week 1 Windows to Wonder Crochet Along

Welcome to the first week of the crochet along pattern for the Lent 2025 Windows to Wonder series. Each Monday of the crochet along will reveal the next set of rows to make your Windows Shawl.

How Much Should I Stitch Each Day to Make this My Lent Devotion?

You pace yourself. There is no right or wrong amount for your crafting to be a devotional practice. The only thing that devotional crafting requires is making time for intention, awareness, and reflection.

But for those of you who do best with a game plan, consider these options:

  • Four rows a day will allow you to stitch through 40 days of Lent (not including Sundays).

  • 3 rows a day will take you every day (including Sundays) from Ash Wednesday through the Monday after Easter.

  • Or crochet as much of the pattern at a time that works for you and your practice.

This is our first time sharing a crochet design, so please email us or reach out to us in our Facebook Group if something doesn't seem quite right, is unclear, or if you need help.

Ways to Create a Contemplative Heart

Here are some ideas to help you add intentionality, awareness and reflection to your craft practice for the first week of Lent.

  • This week while you're stitching, focus on your breathing. Feel how your breath changes as you move through the pattern. Does it change when you concentrate? Does it slow down when you do a row of nothing but double crochet? Notice how God is speaking to you through your breath.

  • Where have you seen God in the world this week? Take a moment to reflect on a place where God has surprised or inspired you.

  • Read or listen to John 2:13-25. Then consider the following questions.

    • Unraveling Expectations: Jesus’ actions in the temple challenge the religious and political expectations of his time. In what ways do we expect God to work in a certain way, and how does our faith stretch when God moves beyond those expectations?

    • Sacred Disruption: Jesus’ zeal for justice led him to disrupt the status quo. When has creative work—stitching, crafting, or making—been an act of disruption or protest in your own faith journey? How might creativity help us embody righteous anger in constructive ways?

    • Rebuilding with Intention: Jesus speaks of tearing down and rebuilding the temple. As we stitch through Lent, what are the patterns in our spiritual lives that need to be unraveled so that something truer and more faithful can be created in their place

Pattern Notes:

SC - Single Crochet

DC - Double Crochet

The first SC or DC in each row count as stitch one for row count.

Turn at the end of each row.

TIP: Don't skip the rows of SC. These rows flip your project around so all the texture ends up on the same side. It might be tempting to skip, but they help the overall look.
