Welcome to the first week of the crochet along pattern for the Lent 2025 Windows to Wonder series. Each Monday of the crochet along will reveal the next set of rows to make your Windows Shawl.
As we move into Week 2 of our Window to Wonder crochet-along, we step into the quiet, shadowed moment of Nicodemus’ nighttime conversation with Jesus in John 3:1-21. This encounter is filled with mystery—why does Nicodemus seek Jesus under the cover of darkness? Is he afraid? Curious? Standing on the edge of something new but unsure how to step forward?
Crocheting is a craft of patience and rhythm, much like faith. Each loop and stitch builds upon the last, forming something greater than its individual parts. Nicodemus, too, is in the midst of something being shaped—his understanding of who Jesus is and what it means to step into the light.
Ways to Cultivate Contemplation with This Lent Crochet-Along
Feel the Rhythm – As your hook moves through each loop, notice the steadiness of your hands and the texture of the yarn. Let this simple act remind you that faith is also formed one step, one moment, one stitch at a time.
Step Toward the Light – Where do you find yourself drawn to God’s presence? Are there places where you hesitate? Like Nicodemus, we are often invited to step forward, even when we don’t have all the answers.
Engage with Scripture – Read or listen to John 3:1-21 and consider these questions:
Picture Nicodemus standing at the edge of a firelight conversation. What emotions might he be feeling—uncertainty, longing, hope?
Jesus speaks of light drawing some in while others turn away. How have you experienced this in your own journey?
What does it mean to truly believe you are welcome in the light? How might this truth shape your daily life?
