Our special guest contributor, Pastor Laura Franks Benton of Just Brave Enough, returns with a lent creative writing prompt for our fourth week of the Windows to Wonder season.
"Every act of courage matters. Now don’t leave it to someone else—an authority, someone with power. You need to be brave. We always speak of everyday kindness. What’s needed now is everyday courage."— Diana Butler Bass
Courage isn’t just for heroes in history books or larger-than-life figures. It isn’t always about standing in front of crowds or making grand sacrifices. Courage happens in the quiet, in the small moments, in the choices we make every single day.
We’ve spent time reflecting on the bravery of others—real or fictional, past or present. But today, let’s turn inward. Let’s consider our own acts of courage.
Maybe your moment of bravery wasn’t seen by anyone else. Maybe it was something that felt small to the world but enormous to you—speaking up when it would have been easier to stay silent, showing up for yourself when doubt tried to hold you back, taking a risk when fear told you not to.

This Week’s Window to Wonder Creative Writing Prompt:
Write a journal entry or a letter to yourself about a time you were courageous.
Remember, bravery comes in all forms. It can be loud or quiet, public or private. It can be standing up for someone else, or simply standing up for yourself.
If you’re struggling to start, use this prompt: “I want to remember…”
Let your words take you back to that moment. What did bravery feel like? What did it cost? What did you gain?
Because every act of courage matters—including yours.
